Tipton & Coseley Building Society say that Adam Evetts will become the mutual’s new chief executive early next year.

Evetts steps up from his role as risk & compliance director at the business, where he has worked for three-and-a-half years. He has worked in the mutual sector for over three decades at various firms.

Prior to Tipton & Coseley, he worked at The Vernon Building Society for two-and-a-half years as chief risk officer, leaving in 2020. Before that, he worked for almost five years at The West Brom, leaving as head of credit risk in 2017.

He replaces Richard Newton who will step down as chief executive next year, after 10 years in the role and after working for the society for 32 years.

Tipton & Coseley Building Society chair Jeremy Cross says: “The board were unanimous in concluding that Adam Evetts should succeed Richard.

“Adam has worked within the building society sector for over 27 years, including at two top-ten societies, and has significant expertise in all areas of risk management, a strong commercial instinct, and the ability to develop, lead and manage teams successfully.”

Cross adds: “Richard leaves us with the society in robust financial health — with strong capital, strong liquidity, an ambitious business plan.”

Evetts says: “The mutual model is as relevant now as it has ever been in our 122-year history and I’m committed to making sure we continue to focus on providing value to our members and supporting our local communities.”

Newton adds: “Having been with the society for most of my career this was a tough decision, from a personal perspective I believe the timing is right and this will allow me to pursue new and different opportunities with a better work-life balance.”
