The average UK property owner is sitting on a home equity of £111,081, according to new data from St Mowden Homes.

The data, based on those who purchased in 2020, revealed that home owners have seen their home equity rise within three years of purchasing a property.

Property owners in London have the highest home equity of £170,946. However, those looking to bank their equity may want to consider moving out of the capital to purchase a cheaper property that likely has more space both inside and out.

London homeowners were followed by Bristol £118,933 and Manchester £87,880.

Homeowners in Liverpool have the least at £61,609. However, despite Liverpool being the lowest home equity city, it’s still a substantial amount to gain in just three years, the researchers said.

Home equity across other key UK cities include Birmingham £77,408, Cardiff £82,836, and Sheffield £76,764.
